Photographs of Geikie Gorge Western Australia
The following photos of Geikie Gorge Western Australia have been kindly supplied by our roving reporter Harry Willey of Scone NSW.
Harry writes: “Darngku is the Aboriginal name of Geikie Gorge, this name was given to it by its traditional owners, the Bunuba people, Depending on the time you have you can choose a One, Two, Three or a Six hour tour with Darngku Heritage Cruises.
The six hour tour includes an extended boat cruise and a guided walk that allows you to see places that you would not usually have access to, your guides are eager to share their knowledge of the flora and fauna and tell you stories from their 30.000 year old culture while showing you how to find bush tucker and medicines. This is a top class tour that commenced operation in August 1993. At which time the Bullova Community purchased the historical Fitzroy Crossing post office and converted it into a first class but budget priced backpacker’s hostel.
The two Aboriginal ladies were Bullova elders, the mothers of Joe Ross and Bruce Williams, they left the boat after taking our lunch orders, giving up the choice of either Crocodile or fish (Bream or Barra) with our salad.
They then went about catching, preparing and cooking the lunches while we went for the trip of a life time, as the only male I was taken into the Ceremonial Cave while the ladies waited at the spot where the photo of the exterior of the cave was taken. Climbing stick and a helping hand were offered to all for the climb, a day to remember.”
