| Bairnsdale was established in 1842 after the discovery of gold which brought many people to the area. The town now has a population of 11,000 people and is located on the Mitchell River 282km east of Melbourne. Bairnsdale has an attractive shopping centre and good facilities. The town has an excellent golf course and also facilities for horse racing, swimming and boating. Bush walking is also popular. |
