Further to my first post, this area has a reasonable toilet, several other tables and benches not under cover and a steel plated fire pit with a pull down grate attached.

The Finke River Rest area is about 125kms out of Alice Springs and we camped there in June 2014. Like many similar rest areas, you need to get there early as by nightfall there were about 18 caravans and motorhomes in the area. The main parking area is a sealed circular road but you can easily access the dirt area next to the river bank and there is a dirt road/track leading away to the North of the site which can accommodate several vans. There is an undercover table and benches and sufficient bins and the area appears to be kept fairly tidy. Traffic is light after nightfall so sleeping is not a problem. There is evidence that small camp fires are the norm in this area.
