STAYED HERE FOR 2 NIGHTS,NICE AREA BUT THE CARAVAN PARK ITSELF IS A BIT RUN DOWN AND THE SITES ARE A TIGHT SQUEEZE,THE SHOWER HEADS SERIOUSLY NEED REPLACING AND THE MANAGERS ARE DEAF TO NOISY CAMPERS LATE NIGHT BOOZE UPS.
DO NOT RECOMMEND,SEEK SLIGHTLY FURTHER AFIELD TO STAY,NOT FAR AT ALL.

Beechworth has a colourfull history. It is a gold mining town and much of the towns existance owes itself to this discovery. Here many Australina miners and the Chinese worked the diggings, sometimes often with violent confrontation. The cemetery has a chinese section as well as all the religons of the day. Arron Sherrit is buried here, he was Joe Byrnes friend and Joe shot him dead at the start of the Siege at Glenrowan in June 1880. The town has many old buildings and has a courthouse where Ned Kellys trial began in August 1880. It has the impressive Gaol which is open to the public and the Burke museum which has Ned Kelly memorabilia. In August every year, there is a Kelly weekend. We were there in 2010 and were lucky enough to see all the Kelly armour and exibits were on display at the Burke museum from the making of the Last outlaw, made in 1980, the best film made about the Kelly gang and Neds life ever made. If you are a Kelly buff, then visit the website called Iron Outlaw. Full of interesting information about the Kellys. From Beechworth, visit Glenrowan where Neds last stand happened. This is all prime gold rush and Kelly country.
