This caravan park is a great place to stay when exploring Kelly country. I have stayed here twice and the cabins are spacious and modern. Benalla itself has several places of interest to Kelly buffs. There is the costume museum which houses the famous Ned Kelly silk sash, it still has his blood on it from when he wore it under his armour at the siege at Glenrowan in June 1880. There is the wooden door where Joe Byrne was hung from by the police to get a better shot for a photo when he died at the siege in Glenrowan. There is other artifacts as well from the Kelly era. In the town near the museum is the old boot makers shop where Ned had a scuffle with police. Ned was being led to the court house opposite and refused to wear hand cuffs. He ran into the shop and fought with constable Lonigan who took hold of Neds privates to try to subdue him. Ned Screamed 'If I ever shoot a man you will be the first!' Ned did, at Strigybark creek on the 26th Octber 1878 he shot dead lonigan but at the time did not know it was him. Also the Benalla cemetery has several Kelly relatives burried there, Neds Grandmother, Tom Lloyds parents (Tom was Neds cousin) and William McGuiness who helped Ned on the day of the scuffle at the boot makers shop. One of the gang members himself, Joe Byrne. Also Martin Cherry who died in the inn at Glenrowan at the siege. The graves are all marked. Joes grave is never bear, it always has a decoration of flowers and trinkets left by Kelly fans. It is easy to find, it sits under a huge tree at the rear of the cemetery.
