Raelene Keeble reviews Crestview Tourist Park in Queanbeyan NSW.

Our roving reporter Raelene Keeble of Perth Western Australia reviews Crestview Tourist Park in NSW:

“I stayed at crestview tourist park during a working holiday. I found crestview to be a friendly and family orienated holiday park. the park is located just the right distance from the town centre – close enough to walk and far enough away to stay quiet and trouble- free. I enjoyed the location of the park, the amenities are always clean and fresh. there is a nice big laundry, but most of all the park managers and their staff are so friendly and go out of their way to help visitors. I will recommend this park to anyone I meet in my future travels!”

Photographs and Review of Halls Creek Western Australia

The following commentary and photos have been kindly supplied by our roving reporter Harry Willey:

“The town of Halls Creek moved 12 km west from its original location in 1949 when the then new Great Northern Highway bypassed the original town which then became a ghost town. Initially a gold mining town, the area now Old Halls Creek was named after prospector Charles Hall. Who had discovered gold there in 1885, creating the first gold rush in Western Australia.

Some gold mining is still carried out by local prospectors, I visited this town for the first time in 1993, when the advice given by fellow travellers was to just drive straight through and not stop at Halls Creek. We stayed for four nights while we explored the surrounding area, although the town got a bit noisy after dark, we at all times felt safe and secure within the park.

Things are different now; since the passing of an act that banned the sale of take away alcohol from the hotel in 2009 there has been a dramatic change.

While some travellers bemoan the lack of a good covering of grass in the Caravan Park during the dry season, without remembering that they are in a arid area of the country.

We found the staff very friendly and eager to help us enjoy our visit.”

Dorothy Vassallo reviews Koonwarra Family Holiday Park in Lakes Entrance Victoria.

Our roving reporter Dorothy Vassallo of WEST WODONGA Victoria reviews Koonwarra Family Holiday Park in Victoria:

“Just completed a 11 day stay in Feb 2011 (tent) at this caravan park. Overall not bad but the permanent residents have said that in the past 18 months the condition of the park has deteriorated. I have looked at the photos on this site – taken in 2008 and there is a visible difference – especially in the games room. Main complaint is lack of garden maintenance and things out of order (2 BBQs, heated spa and dryer).”
