Jounama Creek Campground - Kosciuszko National Park NSW

Nice camp spot. Not far to drive into town (Talbingo) to buy supplies. One of the world's great national parks, home to the highest mountains in Australia, the NSW ski fields and the famous Snowy River. There are endless opportunities for summer walks and winter snow sports, and a teeming variety of native wildlife.
Snow sports are the big attractions in winter, but in warmer months you can admire the alpine wildflowers, visit historic homesteads on the treeless plains in the north of the park, or explore Yarrangobilly Caves and swim in the thermal pool. Alpine walks are limited to the warmer months, but lower-altitude walks are worth taking throughout the year. The Alpine Way has been fully sealed, providing a scenic route between Jindabyne and Khancoban.
Car-based camping areas with fireplaces and toilets are provided along major roads throughout the park, including the Alpine Way, the Khancoban-Cabramurra road (closed in winter), the Snowy Mountains Highway, Elliot Way and Barry Way; phone for details about camping in these areas. Commercial accommodation is available at Thredbo, Perisher, Smiggin Holes, Charlotte Pass, Guthega and Sawpit Creek. For a real old-world high-country experience stay at Currango Homestead and cottages in the heart of the snow gum woodlands in the north of the park (phone 6947 7025 for bookings).
Access 450-600 km south-west of Sydney. Yarrangobilly Caves are 70 km south-east of Tumut on the Snowy Mountains Highway; the ski fields are 90-100 km west of Coomaon Kosciuszko Road and Alpine Way and at Selwyn Snowfields north-west of Cooma. During winter, motorists must carry properly fitting snow chains on most mountain roads. A vehicle entry fee applies year round on the Kosciuszko Road and Alpine Way and during winter at Mt Selwyn. Vehicles and horses are not permitted in the park's wilderness areas. A vehicle fee of $3 applies at Yarrangobilly Caves. Camping is permitted on the mowed area between the access road and Jounama Creek.

The turn off to the campsite is opposite Murray Jackson Dr on the Snowy Mountains Hwy about 3 km east of Talbingo. The campsite follows the narrow dirt road from the NPWS 'Jounama Creek' sign. The road passes a large clearing on the left, then comes to a toilet and other facilities at the campsite.
You can park a caravan, trailer, or a tent in this campground
There are a total of 100 campsites
This large campsite is on the bank of Jounama Creek, not far from the Tumut 3 power station. The campsite is split into three main areas. The built-up area is near the wheelchair-accessible toilet, with space for caravans and easy access to the creek. A little further downstream (the clearing you passed on the way in) is a great area for tents and camper trailers, with a short walk to the toilet. Further down the road, there is more camping, not suitable for caravans or trailers, and with no facilities. There is plenty to explore in the area, including walks along the creek and playing in the (cold) water. Talbingo has some offerings with some info on the power station, a 9-hole golf course, a small shopping center (supermarket open 7 days), country club, service station and more.
You are not able to book these campsites - first come basis

Nice area. I did have more photo's but they were too large to upload. Very quiet while we were there. Dump point and water are located at Talbingo.
