Parkes Highway Caravan Park - Parkes NSW
Parkes Highway Caravan Park is a well maintained park situated on the Newell Highway 1km south of the Post Office. The park has 51 sites and 18 of these are powered and for tourists. The powered sites are quite spacious with screens between some sites. Amenities are good and the park has modern BBQ facilities. Proximity to the highway means some traffic noise is unavoidable. The cabin we stayed in was dirty and crawling with cockroachers. As advertised it said "cheapest and the best" I don't consider $73 cheap compared to wonderful parks for $80. The edges of the mat on the floor had turned up - not good for my 84 year old dad. When divan was pulled out the fluff and dirt under it was to be seen to be believed. I think all furniture was from the op shop - torn and soiled. No receipt was given unless requested. Pool was black - was told 'only for fishing in'!!!! Lights didn't work and manager was at our door early in morning waiting for us to leave so he could turn our power off. Only one small heater in kitchen area so everyone froze all night. Lesson - don't pay until you have seen where you are thinking of staying. Clare Inglis, Geelong Victoria.

We had to use a cabin and friends travelling with us used powered sites. The grass unmowed and cobwebs and mud over everything gave it away when we drove in. Manager commented on need to save on power, lights removed in amenities so only one low watt globe for whole block worked, bbq area the same except wiring was faulty as has removed original and hung a single globe. Amenities unclean. Cabins (2) were a nightmare... unclean, tiles on floor loose and cracked/broken, as before only one globe in 3 lights working, aircons covered in grime and dirt ... I didn't use ours but the other family tried and not working... temps down to 0 degrees, curtains all different with lots of holes in them, mattresses disgusting, microwave but nothing to cook with, 4 spoons/3 knives/no forks/no dinner plates/3 mugs/no cups. Not game to cook on stove/use toaster. Scrubbed everything first. To top it off cabin stunk of smoke... not good for an asthmatic or sinus sufferer... could not sit in there though had to sleep in there. When we got back to our bus on return to other park in Mudgee we had to wash everything that had been taken into cabins. Clothes, sleeping bags, towels etc... not impressed ! I am easy going and don't usually complain so had to be bad for us to go and complain !
