Torquay is a town of 3,670 people situated 96km south-west of Melbourne on the Great Ocean Road. The proximity of the town to the greater Melbourne area makes it a popular tourist destination. Torquay has been described as the "Surf Capital of Australia". The famous Jan Juc and Bells Beach are close by. Bell's Beach is the venue for the Rip Curl Pro Surfing Classic held each Easter and draws surfers from all over the world. Surfworld, Australia's only surfing museum, is located at Torquay and is open for visitors seven days a week.
