Wonthaggi is a town of 6,000 people located 132km from Melbourne. The town has a long history of coal mining which has now been replaced by beef and dairy industries. The Coalfields Caravan & Residential Park has 35 tourist sites of which 10 are unpowered. Powered sites are generally of poor quality and interspersed with weekenders and permanents. Amenities are adequate. The park has a very impressive indoor swimming pool. Six cabins are available for rent. We just came back from there few hours ago. Been there for three nights camping, unpowered, and were really impressed with the hospitality of the people who run the place, the elderly that live there, and also the place itself. Very well kept, clean kitchen and amenities and bbq area. Would surely recommended to anyone and we will visit again.
