Patrick Kelly reviews Moama Riverside Caravan Park NSW.

Roving reporter Patrick Kelly was recently at Moama Riverside Caravan Park and sent in the following report:

We were originally going to pitch the tent, went to another park which had no shade whatsoever. Found this place, and to be honest the camping wasn’t much better – not a blade of grass to be seen. HOWEVER their cabins were absolutely beautiful – we saw them perched on the bank of the Murray and were hooked!

Majority of the cabins have a balcony overlooking the Murray, are clean and well equipped, and great value at $95 a night for the riverside 4 berth which has 2 bedrooms (1 with queen bed, one with 2 bunks) plus couch, table, full kitchen with cutlery & crockery, TV, DVD player, en suite (great shower) and outdoor setting. Have fun hand feeding the ducks, kookaburras and possums! Has a gorgeous lagoon style pool which is part shaded and a pleasant BBQ area ($1). Five minutes walk to the Moama Bowling Club, the brand new Moama Woolworths and over the river to Port of Echuca. Although its adjacent to the Echuca-Moama bridge the main noise came from the kookaburras, corellas, galahs and ducks! Service also terrific. All clubs in Echuca and Moama have courtesy bus connections. Echuca is a great spot and this park and it’s cabins are highly recommended.

The only things that let this place down are 1. Some of the cabins don’t face the river and would be much worse for highway noise and 2. The camping and caravan sites do not have any grass – but the place is in a drought so you can’t be too picky!

Dinner at the Moama Bowling Club is very good, and make sure you take Buster’s tour of the Port of Echuca – 1 hour paddlesteamer cruise plus the tour and access to all of the Port area is $27.50 per person. The Wistaria cafe in Murray Esplanade is also a very pleasant place for lunch.

Its a shame that you judge a park as to if it has grass or not – If you lived in this area and own a caravan park as I do – then you would understand that we are in SERIOUS DROUGHT and we are unable to water – what do you except us to do – lay carpet for everyone……you are obviously not a serious traveller otherwise you would be able to see that most of Australia is in drought – and on top of that all council and water authorities have different rules and regulations – i bet you did not even ask the owners of this park if they are able to water or not – its such a shame that people that love to complain….majority of the time do not get their facts correct to start with….people like this the industry does not need

Settle down Jan, it was an overwhelmingly positive review!

Perhaps you have a little too much time on your hands?

Have stayed at this park regularly over 5 years with wife and three kids and have absolutely loved it . Stayed ion the cabins which are great. Kids love the pool, the view of the river with Paddlesteamers passing by and feeding all the native animals by hand.We cannot recommend this place highly enough and the owners are always there to help!!.
