Aboriginal Culture comes to life at Lane Cove River Tourist Park NSW

Aboriginal cultural performances are now a part of the Lane Cove River Tourist Park activities program. In a bid to reintroduce Aboriginal culture to the Lane Cove Valley and to educate international and domestic visitors on Aboriginal culture, the park in association with The Tribal Warrior Association is hosting twilight cultural performances.

The performance starts with a traditional welcome. After that, guests will be encouraged to learn an Aboriginal song and dance some Aboriginal dances all the while having the story behind each dance and song explained.

“We believe this is a world first in a tourist park” said Tribal Warrior CEO Shane Phillips. “To be able to provide this window into indigenous culture to so many visitors is something that we are very pleased about. People can learn about our culture, the oldest living Indigenous culture in the world through this activity” he said

The Aboriginal performers are more like translators with the ability to translate the meanings behind the songs and dances to the audience. The songs are sung in traditional language. Each dance and song has the origins explained and the performers are very keen on audience participation.

“The artists really get a buzz out of the audience interaction – just seeing the youngsters getting up and getting into this vibrant and rich culture is a real outcome.”

The performances represents the next step in the Lane Cove River Tourist Parks comprehensive sustainability program. The park has already been widely commended for its positive environmental contribution and is now proud to be offering this innovative educational program to the public.

Performances are scheduled every Wednesday night from 6:30pm through to the end of April, a small admission charge is payable. Anyone interested in joining one of the performances should call the Lane Cove River Tourist Park on 9888 9133 for further information.
