Paul Henstock reviews Jordan’s Boating Centre & Holiday Park in Port Macquarie NSW

Our intrepid roving reporter Paul Henstock had to fight sandflies to bring us this detailed review of Jordan’s Boating Centre & Holiday Park in Port Macquarie NSW:

“This is a small caravan park set on the Hastings River across the road from some very expensive real estate!

Member of the Oz Parks group.

Jordan family has owned and operated this park for 40 odd years and it is very much a family business – even Mum still does her bit at reception!

Extremely well maintained grounds and the amenities and cabins are virtually new. Everything is as neat and as clean as you could possibly want.

No camp kitchen, childrens playground, or BBQ area but plenty of Grey Nomads to share experiences with!

Being a fan of Greek food I was looking forward to multiple visits to the restuarant adjacent to the park, but being “ripped off” once was enough!

Tasty but high class prices with low class value – my wifes’ $37 steak was no thicker than you would find in a steak sandwich from a take away food outlet! It was also overcooked. My main meal was also disappointing from a value perspective.

Panthers Club is nearby and the size of the beef shanks two of our party got had to be seen to be believed! Whilst we did not dine here those that did were more than happy with their meals, and the value for money.

You could walk to the major shopping centre of Settlement City, if just over a km is within your distance. A short cut walkway over the river is the way to go.

City centre of Port Macquarie is within minutes drive from the caravan park.

I did have a problem with sand flies at the park as those critters chose me as their meal of the month! Others at the park were not bothered by them, or must have been immune, but if you are also usually on the sand fly “bite menu” be generous with the repellent, at all times, or suffer that incessant need for scratching!

Other than that this was a great little park, in a great location, that seems to get most customers through word of mouth (like us – and we then checked it out on Caravan Park Photos!) or from repeat visitors, which is always a good sign.

Larger vans can be sited (we are 27ft) but I would check with them for availability, and definately if you are larger than us.

We were shown onto the site and were offered to have the van parked for us, if we wanted.

Water enthusiasts can hire windsurfers, BBQ boats, catamarans and ocean kayaks from the office.”
