Smoky Cape Campground - Hat Head National Park NSW

Historic Smoky Cape Lighthouse offers tours and accommodation (phone 6566 6301) in the assistant lighthouse-keeper's cottages. Captain Cook Lookout has wheelchair access, and there's a picnic area with facilities at Smoky Cape. Car-based and camper-trailer camping are available at Smoky Beach and also at Hungry Head camping area south of Hat Head.
Access 24 km north-east of Kempsey off the road to South West Rocks. Vehicle entry fee applies at Hungry Head and Smoky Beach. This low-key campground is nestled among the rainforest just below the lighthouse at Smoky Cape, on a beautiful, isolated stretch of the coast. You'll need to bring drinking water. There is a recycling station, however, taking all your garbage away is appreciated.
Getting there: Take the South West Rocks road, and turn onto Arakoon Road.
Facilities: picnic tables, non-flush toilets The campsite is accessible by all weather unsealed roads suitable for 2wd vehicles. 372.6 km NNE of Sydney. 9km south-east from South West Rocks village, via Arakoon Road and Lighthouse Road. You can park a trailer, or a tent in this campground - but no caravans. Smoky Cape camping ground is a rainforest campsite below the lighthouse, on an isolated stretch of coast. You are not able to book these campsites - first come basis
