It can be very cold, misty and wet during winter, and snow usually falls two or three times each year. Campers should come prepared for all weather conditions and be self reliant. Mount Canobolas is always a few degrees cooler than the surrounding region, so bring warm clothing, even in summer.
This camping area serves as a base for heading off along various walking tracks, including the popular Federal Falls Track. Along these walks, you can see how subalpine vegetation gives way to moist forest as the altitude changes. You'll also see heathland among the rocky outcrops. Many different bird species gather in this area.
